I was told I couldn't stand on an LNER Azuma; it this a common practice when travelling on Class 800 series trains?

When I was on an LNER Azuma recently, they said passengers couldn't stand in the carriage, only the vestibules. Is this common practice on class 80X?

I've never heard it on TPE. It'd probably be a surefire way to cause a passenger revolt too.

Heard this on GWR the other week on departure from Oxford. It was busy but not the busiest I've ever seen it - the TM said there were a few seats left, and that if they weren't able to find any then they needed to stand in the vestibule.

Odd, it’s very very common to heard GWR TMs ask people to move down the carriage when standing, especially at Reading and Oxford

I don't travel that way an awful lot but it's also the first time I'd heard it. She did specifically say "you can't be standing in the aisles"

Then you could say she needs to learn to stop making up her own rules. I recommend you report this to GWR, and enquire whether this is something she's allowed to do.

Fully agree!
Trains are designed to have standing passengers throughout the train including the aisles.

When necessary, sure, but when it isn't then it's just a hindrance to other passengers and the staff trying to do ticket checks, catering etc.

Passengers don’t choose standing in the aisle over a seat. Sometimes they choose a vestibule but not the aisle. If it’s becoming a revenue issue for the TOC they need to put on more/longer trains, simple as that.

Were Standard passengers standing in 1st? That might be an explanation.
No just a packed train. She actually said something along the lines of "if you're currently standing in the aisle you'll have to get off and board a later train" this was at Newcastle on a service from Edinburgh

Wasn't there a thread about this fairly recently, involving a Scotrail 158 or something?

Sounds like it's another LNER member of staff making the rules up as they go along.

They haven't clearly seen the loadings on some 5 coach GWR IETs for Oxford which are standing all the way along the train, especially when GWR run a reduced timetable with engineering works [i.e. only 3tph to Didcot, and one of those is the stopper]
