By way of an information for this forum, NS have announced this week that they are going to make the ICE trains to/from Germany compulsory reservation from 17th June to 18th August, to help reduce the risk from the big issues they had last summer as a spillover from the all the problems DB has had maintaining its fleet, repairing the track and coping with heat. Also, the cheaper 'Early Bird' fares they sell from the Netherlands to Brussel on IC Belgium wlll now be tied a specific train this summer, again to help reduce some of the problems (although they weren't as bad on ICE). Currently, the advance can be used on any train on the date marked on the ticket (which has to be bought>7 days in advance).
However, still no sign of the Velaro ICE trains that were ordered, inter alia, for operation in the Netherlands and the current ICE Internationaal fleet is beginning to look its age...
