Good Afternoon

I have an upcoming trip to Romania, We will be traveling with Interrail and FIP tickets. As most IR trains and IRN require reservations we are wondering if it's possible to Reserve seats and couchettes outside the country, everything seems to point to that we cannot do so, any advice would be much appreciated.

You should be able to get your reservations from where you purchased your InterRail pass from.

EU/Interrail ow also have their own forum=community.eurail.com/eu. Or check their country-info on their site.
AFAIK it was only possible in person at a staffed salescounter-also with DB. If that would still be the case for now cannot say. Never heard/seen any hint to make separate seat/bed ONLY online bookings. Best source for more info is likely seat61-as so often.
Also note that since last years CFR is just a shadow of its former self-which was already quite poor. F.e. on the main line Bucuresti-Brasov are at least 3, maybe 4 other competitors-not accepting any other passes. If you count the cost of an IR-passday very often buying locally will work out cheaper-and of course easier.
@Welby-its very certainly NOT possible for many countries to get the needed REServations from the salespoint-even the new IR-app will mostly only show where to go to for those-and thats often again that staffed sales-counter! IF possible, IR charges an extra 2 eur for the privilege.
