Warning to anyone using a Interrail pass on Nice to Marseille TER services from June 30th

Excluded Trains

Regional Urban Transport operated by Transdev

as those trains are excluded from the included types of train where Interrail is valid

This is plain stupid

The trains run by SNCF at the moment are fine - they just need to be more frequent, not privatised!

They aren't privatised per se, the region changed the operator of those services from SNCF to Transdev, the service patterns should be the same as they are decided by the region

Sorry but I can't find anything on the quoted link.
In addition Transdev don't take over until 29 June.

Open France and look at the rightmost excluded trains column

Indeed, fixed
Thanks. However it doesn't seem clear to me that "Regional urban transport operated by Transdev" covers the Marseille to Nice route which is an inter- urban route.
In addition the Interrail Planner (not that it is 100% reliable) does not show the trains as outside the pass network from July.
Furthermore when SNCF said interrail wasn't allowed a couple of years ago the PACA region overruled them.
We will see.

Surely things like Interrail validity should be protected by concession agreement? Or are these the kind of things that get overlooked by inexperienced authorities managing PSOs for the first time?

Transdev will only run the Marseille to Nice line, the rest of the region TER lines will be SNCF-operated, which makes the added fact there is no Transdev mention in Included Trains read as they aren't included.

But that might be too early to decipher and we will likely get more info as the changeover nears.

Transdev also operate light rail services in a number of French cities.

Warning to anyone relying on information from Interrail: until the region says passes are not valid, they are valid. The region decides the fares and conditions and currently passes are valid. For passes to become invalid, the region must actively change their conditions.
In addition, the Rail Planner app doesn't say anything about those trains. That app is not reliable, but as long as it accepts a train for your pass, you must be able to rely on that.

On the webpage of TER Zou! about the new service on Marseille-Nice, it says in the FAQs that Interrail will still be accepted.
https://zou.maregionsud.fr/la-ligne-de-train-marseille-nice-evolue/ (Translation by Google Translate)
Tariffs and subscriptions remain the same as the tariffs currently in force. You can travel with your tickets and tickets and ZOU! subscription cards.
The reductions in force on the national railway network are accepted on this train line:
  • Military and reformed war pensioners
  • Large families with at least three minor children
  • Fathers and mothers of families with or having had or have raised or have raised five children
  • Persons with disabilities and their companions
  • Group tariffs
  • Offer Pass Eurail / Interrail on ZOU! Southern Provence Alpes-Côte d’Azur region
