So i have this, mind blown idea in my head a couple weeks ago and i want somebody to tell me is this (logically) possible or not.
So in empty stock moves hauled by locomotives there are some ex 508 head/end carriage yea? And then on SWR's 455(/5 i think?) some of which have 508 middle carriage.
If 455/5 retires and we can get the 508 middle from it, as well as taking a set of ex 508 barrier carriage, heavily modify and refitting them with the right equipment, can we technically make/reforn a 508 3 car set from this?
The reason why this might or could happen is really just so it could go along with 507001 when it retires (if they have any plans on getting mainline certified to run railtours but this isnt the main point here.)

There is one surviving unit (508212, ex 508133) which could theoretically be preserved, but I very much doubt it'll happen unfortunately. No plans for 507001 to be mainline certified, as far as I'm aware.

I’ve had to read the original post several times and I’m still confused about what is trying to be achieved.

Did you mean re-create a 508 in its original 4-car formation as delivered to the Southern Region?
Not sure why you'd want to, as it's essentially identical to a 507, and resources/cash for preservation are pretty limited and probably best used elsewhere
