Good afternoon everyone.
I was wondering if there was a specific time of the year when rail company’s look for trainee train drivers?
I’m am very keen to get into train driving and was wondering if any of you guys knew when company’s will start recruiting.
I understand there’s been mass disruption because of COVID-19, I have just recently lost my job and I am looking for opportunities.
Thanks

Just my view but a lot of companies have previously recruited throughout the year but the current situation may well change that for some time whilst passenger numbers and the number of services required increases again. Your best bet is to go onto your local TOC/FOC websites and sign up for job alerts and get into the habit of checking them most days as the alerts don't always seem to work that well.

I am sure you know already but these roles are sought after and the number of applicants is huge so you will need to act quickly when you do see a vacancy you like so make sure your CV is up to date etc.

Good luck it is a long process.

Whilst it definitely depends on the area you live in, and the number of Train Companies in your area, in my experience over the last four years or so, recruitment campaigns have tended to start in February/March. Again, this is only my experience with companies in my area, I’d imagine it will be different all over the country.

When I’ve been looking out for vacancies, they have come online August to October for my area! I guess they’re all different. As said, Corona is slowing everything down tho!

Any time between January and December depending on the needs of the company and availability of classroom trainers. You've got to be committed to regularly checking the careers pages because vacancies come and go like lightning.

Thankyou for all your replies, I keep looking everyday at recruitment forums etc and I’ve been looking on greater Anglia and GWR aswell.
As most of you said it’s a sought after job role and you have to get in there pretty quick!
Cheers once again
