Hello all,

I'm planning to travel to France (Beaune) in May 2024. I've never travelled by train in Europe before, and would like to work out my journey without using a journey planner. Is there a French equivalent of BRTimes, or RealTime Trains? If not, how about PDFs of printed timetables? Obviously the 2024 timetables aren't yet available, but I'd like to see the current timetables to give me an idea of the possibilities.

Unfortunately the answer is "not really".
PDFs of timetables (Fiches Horaires) are often available for local routes and can be downloaded from the regional TER websites. As far as I am aware these do not exist for long diistance tgv or Intercite trains.

This recent thread specifically asked about an equivalent for Spain, however the rest of Europe was touched upon. See: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/spain-realtimetrains.254030/#post-6393428

To quote one such post:

In its pseudo-private days, Network Rail had a policy of open data, and made its train running information available to third parties, enabling sites like RTT.
I'm not aware of any other railway system which produces such comprehensive open data for third parties, so you don't get RTT-like sites.
Sometimes the operators will produce limited train running information in their own web site/apps, eg SNCF can give you a live map of progress of your train.
Renfe is not in the vanguard of user-friendly internet information providers for its services.
There are no standards for the exchange of train information, so there is no chance of a rail equivalent of flightradar.

Renfe's app appears to have station departure times, for instance, updated in real time.

Up the creek
European Rail Timetable (www.europeanrailtimetable.eu ) has extensive coverage of the whole of Europe. Not every line or station, but it has pretty well all main line trains and many on the more interesting branches. There is an on-line version, I think.
