As per the title .. is there an unreserved carriage on LNER, from NCL to KGX

My daughter is travelling today and had her ticket bought for her, but no table and going backwards

I know with TPE .. carriage D is normally unreserved

thanks!

It's worth noting that you can make seat reservations on LNER's website and can use the seat selector as well (book a seat and then once the reservation is made you'll have the option to choose your seat).

Thank you

yes, I agree the LNER booking site is good, with the ability to book actual seats. the forum's own site also lets you book seats too with some rail companies.

It was just this time, my daughter's friend booked the ticket for her and just accepted the allocated seat

My daughter is now on her way and managed to get a table seat and even better, she is also travelling forwards .. in carriage C

You misunderstand. You can make a seat reservation on LNER at any time until around five minutes prior to departure from your boarding station. You don't need to make the reservation at the same time as you book the ticket, you can also therefore use it to get a better reservation if you're unhappy with one that you've been given. I've also used it to make a reservation next to a friend when we've booked separately and weren't able to coordinate our bookings to get seats together.

However, all's well that ends well :)

Thanks again.

I have seen somewhere, notification of the ability to book a seat just before departure, but I had assumed this would be if you had bought the ticket directly so it was in your name on the website or app.

In this case my daughter's friend booked the ticket.

I told my daughter to perhaps ask at the ticket office, but she just decided to take a chance and hop on to carriage C and see what was available. .. but as you rightly said "all's well that ends well"

She actually arrived at KGX about 20 minutes and nobody said beside her all journey ... the train wasn't that busy I believe.

Ah yes I see the confusion, indeed anyone can do it the only requirement is an LNER account but there's no need to have bought any tickets through LNER at all :)

Near where the 3 ridings meet
What can be done about the situation where you find an unreserved seat, occupy it then find the indicator changes to reserved mid journey?
Due to the nature of my journey I was unable to reserve a seat before departure.
