Hi,

I've bought a Portsmouth & S or Harbour to Ryde St Johns Road, Anytime Open Return, as part of a split from Swansea to the Isle of Wight, but am being routed to Portsmouth Harbour and the WightLink ferry. However I'd much rather take the hovercraft. It's not clear online if that's a valid option, and SWR's website suggests you have to book on the hovercraft separately. Is anyone able to confirm if I can use the hovercraft on this ticket?

Thanks in advance!

Does your ticket from Portsmouth&S/HBR to Ryde St Johns Road show route ANYPERM+WIGHTLK or ANYPERM+HOVRTVL?

If it shows route WIGHTLK then this isn't valid on the Hovertravel despite the Anytime Open Return for route HOVRTVL being cheaper, you might be able to get an excess to have the route HOVERTVL, but i'm not sure 100% on excesses myself anymore.

It says “Valid for travel by any permitted route and Wightlink crossing.” - I haven’t collected the physical tickets yet (and am considering refunding the lot and starting again, which is my other option)

If you’re looking to use Hovertravel, you may as well refund the relevant ticket (Portsmouth Stations to Ryde St Johns Road) and purchase an Anytime Open Return routed ANY PERM+HOVRTVL. You should be able to get it by selecting any itinerary travelling via Ryde Hoverport.

Tickets for the crossing are specific to either Wightlink or Hovertravel. You can't mix and match on a return and it's unlikely that any ticket offices will be able or willing to excess the ticket from one route to another.

So if you have bought a Wightlink ticket and now want to travel with Hovertravel, you can take advantage of the Book with Confidence scheme to get a full fee-free refund and rebook your new tickets.

Ah ok, thanks both. I booked through railsplit on rail easy, who won’t refund individual tickets, so I’ll have to refund and rebook the whole lot. If it’s gone up in price I won’t and will try to excess/get an in person refund of that one ticket and re-buy.

I don't think this is the case - you can still manually get a refund of individual tickets within your booking.

Do you mean as in collect the tickets, and then get a refund at the station? RailEasy have said I will have to refund the whole lot.

You won't be able to get a refund at the station, as tickets always have to be retuned to their original retailer for a refund - in this case that would be Raileasy, not a station booking office.

The conditions for walkup tickets (and Advances under Book with Confidence) include the ability to get a refund; there is nothing in RailEasy's terms which says that if you want a refund, you must refund all tickets bought in a given transaction.

Probably a case that to do a refund online, ahead of travel, doesn't allow you to easily distinguish just one ticket in a journey for refund.

Which is a reason to book with Trainline, who can (and do) refund individual tickets within a multi-ticket journey.
Also, with split ticket journeys it's worth checking both sites as you do get different prices. When we went at Easter, RailSplit were over £100 dearer for all of us than Trainline were. So it pays to shop around.

Possibly not with the automated system, but Raileasy must still have manual processes in place to do it for individual tickets when requested.

Indeed, although this will probably need the tickets to be collected and then sent back (assuming it's ToD).

As far as I can tell it can only be done manually, but so far they've said they can only refund the whole lot. It's not the end of the world but I have asked again if they can refund just the one ticket.

Ask them where in their terms it states this restriction.

I am sure that Raileasy have someone who posts on this forum. Unfortunately, I don't know who that is.

Just to clear up the query regarding refunds, we will happily cancel and refund individual tickets within a booking in line with our cancellation policy (usually fee-free if the initial request to us is within the first 2 hours after purchase, or with the standard refund terms thereafter), but this does need doing manually via our support team (no need to print these first if pending collection from a ticket machine, we can cancel the tickets without these being collected).

@aar0 - I suspect there's just been a misunderstanding with your request in terms of what you're wanting to be done if we've advised otherwise - if you just reply back to your support request (if you haven't already) clarifying the individual ticket that needs to be cancelled, we'll be able to get it sorted for you.

Hi Raileasy, I’d just opened the thread to reply, you have refunded the individual ticket in the last 5 minutes! I’ll book the right ticket now. Thanks to everyone for their help.
