After reading various posts about ITSO cards and that you can load a London one day Travelcard to them I took the plunge and ordered an EMR smartcard.
This arrived on Thursday and on Saturday evening I went through their web site to purchase a z1-6 one day Travelcard for today (Sunday) with my network Railcard discount. It was nice and easy to load the ticket using my phone and tapping the smartcard on the back and I was itching to try it out today.
Made a few trips round London on bus, tube, national rail and it worked absolutely flawlessly certainly a million times better than having to trapse to the station to find ticket machine not working or the ticket office closed!
But what puzzled me is if EMR can allow me to load a discounted one day Travelcard why can't Southeastern let me load one on their version - The Key.
First of all I was told that you can load one providing it's from outside the London zones - not too helpful as I don't need that.
They went on to say that the Travelcard isn't their product and to use Oyster or Contactless daily capping instead within the zones.
I said the network Railcard gives me a discount at weekends making it far cheaper than the daily oyster cap
They then (incorrectly) told me that the Railcard discount can be added to an Oyster card and I did tell them that this was not the case with a network Railcard.
At which point it started to go round in circles with them telling me I can add one outside the fare zones and I said I am baffled that I can buy a one day Travelcard on a smartcard from a TOC in the Midlands but my own local TOC won't let me buy the same ticket on their smartcard...
So I'm still not sure why Southeastern won't allow in boundary Travelcards on the Key!
