Jim Bowen has been given the 'BFH' to his final resting place. RIP, Bullseye was staple viewing when I was young.

Broadcaster and comedian Jim Bowen, best known for hosting darts-based game show Bullseye in the 1980s and '90s, has died at the age of 80.

His wife confirmed the news to BBC Radio Lancashire.

The former deputy headmaster, who was born in Lancashire, began his career as a stand-up comedian on the club circuit in the 1960s.

He became a household name when he began presenting Bullseye in 1981. The show ran for 14 years until 1995.

I had the pleasure to meet Jim Bowen in 1985 when he opened a Ladbrokes Club I was Assistant Manager of after a refurbishment.

Being the most junior member of Management it was my job to look after him in "The Green Room" (The Managers Office)

He was a really nice guy to talk to and pretty bright as you would expect of a former Teacher. We had a lot of posh drinks but he requested Brown Ale. He quaffed impressive amounts of said beverage and smoked a load of (my) Bensons.

Despite developing a good rapport it did not prevent him taking the piss out of me on Stage. I was wearing White Tuxedo with Black Trousers and he kept calling me a Lanky Streak of piss or a bloody negative much to the amusement of the punters. We had a mock Bullseye Game which he commentated on.

He certainly had the common touch and went down really well.

A small railway connection in that he used to live in a former railway station on one of the closed lines around Wennington or Clapham, can't remember exactly which.
