Hi there, i had an interview with c2c for the position of customer information manager almost 3 weeks ago. To date I’ve not heard anything and felt my interview was pretty strong. I saw this morning that c2c have advertised the role again and having googled there seems to be a split between take the hint and more on (unprofessional surely) and no news is good news.

So should i take the hint or try and email them and are c2c a company that tends to ghost people they interview?

I hate to say it but:

Apply Again!!

The reason for this is because HR Departments / Hiring Managers and Interviewers in most cases don't talk to each other on an individual basis about applicants that they want to decline. just the ones they definitely want to take in.

Many of the jobs I was declined for in the first round I didn't hear back from them within 4 weeks. Even then it's usually a generic 'Your application has been unsuccessful" and that's considered a suitable response. Only a few sent polite messages and many I still haven't heard from years later. The company I now work for, didn't come back to me for 6 months before offering a 2nd interview.

Most companies ghost people. It's not personal and in many cases just a reflection of their hiring systems and just not the people that use them. It's a bit like dating, although in that case it usually is personal.

The opportunity is still there if you want to try again. You might end up with a different interviewer or even better the same interviewer who would be bemused when you've arrived for a second time.

Email then ... Or call

As where you stand! They should be able to give you an answer ...

If they don't reply ... Do you really want to work for a company that fails you at the first hurdle!?
I know the train companies work on a different time span, or even other time dimension! But ... manners are nothing

There is no harm in trying to email or phone - if you got through to an interview stage, presumably you actually have a name or position you can contact rather than the generic recruitment email?

Emailed two days ago and no reply, guess I’ve been ghosted then

Very unprofessional company

C2C are indeed a very unprofessional and careless company, with two of my emails about a Trainee Train Driver going completely unanswered and no phone number to contact either. I withdrew my application because of it. I also saw the original prior posting for this job but didn't apply, glad I didn't waste my time.

Good luck getting into the rail industry then. Its literally every company for an in demand position.

I can't see any point in getting het up about this, it's not as though it's a new thing, a little over 20 years ago I had no response whatsoever from Midland Mainline, then about six or nine months later I received a letter giving me a time and date for interview for the following week, should I have got humpy and refused to attend? not likely thanks

As far back as 1992 I applied for a job, from an external advert, with Gatwick Express and was employed by NSE, we were simply told that we didn't apply for GatEx it was just our imaginations and did we want a job or not? you either learn to ride with it or look for another industry, if there are other industries that don't operate the same way that is

I already am. I'm current at SWR, and while it's an awful company, the recruitment was actually half decent. I even had a phone number I could call. So they're not all as bad as each other. MTR(EL) are also awful but at least will eventually reply to your email, even if it needs a poke. C2C were just dead. Feels like a bottomless void of nothing.

But surely there’s a slight difference between waiting months for an interview and having an interview and not even being told you’ve been unsuccessful which means it’s not possible to get any feedback

Being made to wait for an interview is pretty much a given but rudeness in leaving people hanging after having it isn’t

If they've not said no then you might be on some sort of shortlist. Emailing them after 3 weeks would not be an unreasonable thing to do

Indeed similar has happened to me before. Several weeks before I was advised I was on hold awaiting some team restructure, and that was after several emails that went nowhere. Then several months later a position was offered.

Each company is better than others although I think most have been universally bad due to overworked / understaffed recruitment teams.

I don't I'm afraid, internal recruitment communication (my post refers to incoming recruitment) is shockingly poor, so I have no insider information, but Metro Guard comes out fairly often. Keep in mind the conditions that new entrants will get are quite poor, and there is a new method of work and other issues coming with new 701 trains
