You could get zone 1 included in your season ticket, I suppose, but I don't know how much extra that would cost. There's plenty on here who would be able to advise. Other than that, the Oyster £1.60 is now £1.80. How about the 'bus (£1.20 now) or even walking?

You could walk. How far away is anywhere in central London that is only three stops on the tube? You'd get plenty of exercise and a lot less stress to boot.

Hopefully not 3 stops on the Victoria line... since that would be a bit far. :-P

Green Park is only 1.6 miles by tube from Euston, which ought to be walkable in 20-25 minutes. As the tube doesn't go in a straight line and the road system in that part of London is pretty grid-like, it might even be less than this on the surface.

On the Northern Line, Tottenham Court Road is under a mile from Euston. On the City branch of the Northern though, Old Street is just over 2 miles.

Just walk when it's not raining and carry an Oyster Card for the times when it is.

I looked on the National Rail season ticket calculator which gives:

Berkamsted - London Terminals £3052

Berkamsted - London Z1-Z6 £3944

A difference of £892

Say you use the season 236 days per year (365 -102 days weekends -27 days Annual hols + Bank Hols) this gives a daily cost of £3.78 which is more expensive than Oyster PAYG.

An Oyster Z1 Travelcard is £1032 which is more expensive than PAYG

Oyster Z1 - Z9 + Watford Junction is £2712
Annual Season Berkamsted - Watford Junction is £1624
which gives an annual cost of £4336, again more expensive.

Looks like Berkamsted to Euston + PAYG is your best bet.

Hope this helps

Walk from Kensington Olympia - a little closer perhaps, with plenty of buses? Haven't checked prices though.

Euston to Hyde Park Corner would take me around 50 to 60 mins to walk and Im quite a fast walker. Its not the distance so much as congestion on the streets, waiting for lights etc.

I take your point. Hyde Park Corner is a good deal on from Green Park anyway.

I've rediscovered the delights of walking this week. Last year my employer relocated from Bradford to Morley, but unfortunately nowhere near the station, so I'm left with a hideous commute along the busiest section of the M62. However due to the terrible weather this week I've been using the train, and it's been great. I've really enjoyed the 2 miles walk to and from Morley station, and instead of arriving at work scuzzed out from sitting in bumper to bumper traffic with a load of other drones going in a state of semi-comatose misery to their pointless jobs, I've got the old blood pumping and feeling a million dollars. I'm going to use the train at least once a week from now on :) Even got an HST this morning in from Shipley to Leeds :) :)
