Kirkliston - should it be in West Lothian Council?

This seems a really specific topic, but I don't think it would fit in the existing Lothian Buses topic. I was wondering, why not move Kirkliston out of the City of Edinburgh and into West Lothian, seeing as it's not really served by Lothian Buses (one Lothian Country route excepted) and Edinburgh Council don't like funding buses that go out of the area? Is there any need for it to be in the Edinburgh council area?

It would will probably be to do with the number of residents that Edinburgh have it. West Lothian don’t have the funds to take on more people I guess. Edinburgh isn’t much better but it’s continuing to grow.

Either way they need to have better clearer boundaries which are updated on all address systems as they still have Edinburgh under Midlothian on some older systems which it hasn’t been since before 1975.

You could also argue that Wilkieston should be part of Edinburgh as Bonnington cottages are part of Edinburgh just up the road.

What might be better is if there was a Lothians council and an Edinburgh one. Lothians Council would cover West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian and Edinburgh Council would cover City of Edinburgh.

I've found most address systems seem to use traditional counties most of the time, with a few exceptions. Weirdly Royal Mail's online postage uses council areas for most areas but Edinburgh is still under Midlothian. "Edinburgh, Edinburgh (city of)" like eBay uses is a bit too weird for me. "Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh" looks a bit better. Then again you'd have weird-looking addresses like "Newcraighall, Musselburgh, City of Edinburgh", where Midlothian works as a fudge for the problem.

Newcraighall isn’t part of Musselburgh. Musselburgh is in East Lothian.

Yeah I agree that City of Edinburgh looks better for the county than Edinburgh (city of).

Maybe they should just abolish counties on addresses altogether and just have the town/city.

The Post Office’s preferred address file (PAF) removed counties back in 2000. They don‘t really need to be abolished. Online organisations asking for addresses need to update their software to stop asking for them.

Postally it is, though (the post town is Musselburgh and it's got an EH21 postcode), which is what I was referring to. e.g. EH21 8RX is in the City of Edinburgh, but its post town is Musselburgh.

Yeah, that's true. It just sometimes feel like I'm missing something out.
