I am not sure where to post this but feel free to move this to the appropriate place.

Yesterday evening (07/11/15) I was travelling home from a West Midlands Liberal Democrat Regional Conference which was in Stratford-Upon-Avon. I was on the 20.31 XC Birmingham New to Street to Manchester Piccadilly when the train arrived at Wolverhampton I noticed on the screen on the next platform there was a London Midland service from Birmingham to Crewe via Stoke-On-Trent. Can someone please explain this as I thought Birmingham to Crewe London Midland services did not serve Stoke?

I think there's one direct service every weekday from Crewe to New Street via Stoke-on Trent - 0656 ex-Crewe and the return journey at 1901 ex-New Street.

There's also one from Birmingham on Saturdays, but not towards.

It covers stations between Stafford and Crewe usually served by London services. London services formed of 8 carriages cannot call at some stations so they run fast between Stafford and Crewe with the Birmingham service covering the gap.

Its the 06:35 from Crewe in the week which picked up the stops when the 6:52 Euston went 8-car, the 6:35 also calls all stations between Wolves and New Street except for Sandwell & Dudley.

They also all stop at Stoke. Now that the 20:13 ex Euston goes via Hixon (avoiding Stafford completely) no LMs from Euston go mainline from Stafford to Crewe anymore.

There is a morning Crewe to Birmingham New Street via Stoke-on-Trent service as well.
