Just wondering if there anyone on here who can shed light on the roster for LNER TMs at Leeds.

Is it one big rolling roster or is it broken into smaller, separate links of set times i.e. earlies, mids, lates?

Hello! Leeds TM here. We have earlies and lates.

The earliest book on I believe is around 4am, ranging up to about 9am, and then lates you can book on as early as 11:45 and as late as 19:04.

As a new TM, it's more likely than not that you'll go in to the late link.

I can't speak for earlies as I have never been in that link, and wouldn't want to be, but the late roster is generally fine, quite a bit of branch lines to Harrogate, Skipton, Bradford and the odd Lincoln. Naturally given the time of night, we do get quite a bit of trouble from people, and disruption can feel a little worse late at night!

Any questions you have feel free to ask away too!

Hello! Thank you for the extensive, detailed response.

I’m a night owl and work permanent lates in my current role through a regular swap with a colleague who is a morning lark. Knowing that links at Leeds are not only demarcated in this way but that the likelihood is a new starter would go into a late link is exactly what I was hoping to hear! :D The variety stemming from quite a bit of work along the branch lines is an added bonus. As for the additional ‘trouble’ and disruption, well that’s to be expected and par for the course.

I take it you sign the Class 91/MkIV sets as well (though I appreciate their time in service is coming to an end)?

Haha anytime! Yes everyone at Leeds signs both Azuma (80X) and MkIV - I don't believe there's any plans to change this for now, certainly the train managers currently being trained are doing both.

Thanks again for your responses, all very useful :)

If anyone else on here has applied, please do post if/when you hear something from LNER.

I wonder if this is just the one job available or if multiple candidates will be hired. Does anybody know how they usually do things for positions like this?

Completed a video interview and now waiting to see if I got through to next stage; no idea how many vacancies there may be but do know they have a process for creating a 6-month Talent Pool for any candidates who make the grade but don’t quite score highly enough to get the job(s) available at that time.

I don't have an exact figure of how many are needed now but we definitely need more at Leeds ahead of December new timetable. Good luck those who have done their interview!

Thank you! :) Still no news on whether I’m through to psychometrics and selection event but imagine they’ve got quite a few videos to review. Guessed it was in readiness for the December major timetable change so appreciate you confirming that.

I have yea, and done the video interview. I have a full set of enhanced psychometrics passes for driver roles, not sure if I’ll have to take any different ones for this role though

Knowing how the railway works, with at least some of the tests definitely being different I suspect they’ll want you to sit the set in its entirety. Fingers crossed we both get through to the stage; I’ll post once I hear anything.
