Hi all,

Group of us travelling to Hastings tomorrow. I'm definitely going out via Ashford to tick off the line via Appledore.

The £26 (w/ railcard) super off peak return appears to be "any permitted route" + high speed. There is some dispute in the group over whether such a ticket can be used back to London Bridge via Battle on the return. My spidey sense says yes, but want to settle the argument once and for all.

Any advice gratefully received.

Absolutely, it is. However, to save a little bit of money you can buy the "not High Speed" ticket and then obtain a change of route excess to "plus High Speed" for the outward portion, which is charged at half the difference.

The change of route excess can be obtained without penalty onboard the train, however the barrier line at St Pancras are unlikely to let you through without it, so you'd be well advised to allow a bit of extra time to buy your excess from the barrier staff or one of the two ticket offices downstairs (TL/EMR).

Yes just make sure you don't get the 'VIA HAYWARDS HTH' fare as that's for going via Haywards Heath!
