Is there anywhere in London where you can pick up the bus maps where they aren't kept behind the glass and without having to queue up and ask?

I always find it quite odd that the leaflet racks at tube stations carry leaflets for many forms of transport (tube of course, bikes, boats, cable car) yet the bus maps are kept under the counter or behind the glass like a closely guarded secret.

Also have they stopped doing the visitors guide to tfl that used to have the diagrammatic central London bus map? That did used to be available in tube stations.

Often out front at Victoria bus station (although sometimes you do have to ask). The office is on the route 38 lane - near the bus boarding point (so east end of the lane).

I can understand why they're not on display. There is not one TfL bus map showing all their routes, instead they are divided into geographical areas and a set is quite cumbersome as well as costly to produce. You also don't want people picking up three entirely useless (for their purposes) maps when one would have done. It is vital imo that TfL continue issuing these maps free of charge so they mustn't be treated like confetti. The underground map is slim and in one edition so its issue is not an issue, as it were!

P.S. There IS an all-London bus map produced By Mike Harris but it is not available through TfL. It costs, but I carry it with me and find it invaluable. Gone are the days when I knew every London bus route, which garages operated them and with which buses!

I have also found them on display on the ticket office counter (by the barriers) at West Kensington.

Walthamstow Central and Tottenham Hale on occasions have put out a few of each in a spare rack amongst the Tube stuff, but you need to be lucky as they quickly get taken.

It's still available as a PDF, so I assume printed versions continue to be produced too. Perhaps they tend to only be available in TfL visitor information centres now?

The map in this was widely available during the last tube strike (with a special strike cover) - I was surprised they used this as it omits many useful links for workers.

Southwark often has the full central London map out.
