Hi,

I'm hoping to get an interview soon with arriva rail London/London Overground, for New Cross Depot.

I'm after some advice, from current staff who work there, like what routes you drive, where I can get hold of route maps, traction details etc etc.

Basically anything you think can help please.

Thanks in advance.

Traction is Cl378. Routes are Highbury & Islington to Clapham Junction/West Croydon/Crystal Palace/New Cross.

To be honest, that is all you need to know. They are not going to be asking you detailed questions about traction and the route before you have even started.

Yeah I know. Just wanted some information that I could maybe use to help me - show them that I really want the job.

You won't need in depth traction or route knowledge for the interview but knowing that class 378 trains run on electricity rather than diesel, things such as an understanding of the service pattern, frequency etc, and a geography of the network, for instance, station facilities and where to interchange for other lines, tourist attractions etc won't do you any harm. It's all things which have come up in previous interviews I have had for a variety of roles in different companies. In my interview for my current job - albeit not a driver - one of the things I made a point of, for instance, was finding out the PPM (punctuality) figures for the last period. It's all about doing your research on the company itself - the interviewer themselves are unlikely to know or care who makes - say - the CIS screens but will know the company values, structure, and network.
