Hi all,
There is currently a twitter conversation on SW Trains with a passenger with a London to Banbury ticket wanting to start his journey at Twickenham. SW say he needs an extra Twickenham to Reading ticket, but I just put in BR fares London Waterloo to Banbury and it gave me the fares from London Terminals. Is Waterloo to Banbury via Reading a permitted route? Therefore he could start his journey at Twickenham?

Yes, Twickenham is on a valid route from London to Banbury.

SWT are still denying it, saying an additional ticket is needed and you can only use it from Paddington or Marylebone.

Off peak London-Banbury tickets have restriction PU, and super off peak ones WZ. Neither prevents you from breaking your journey, or starting from another station on a valid route. Advance tickets are something else, but they'd all have "CHILTERN ONLY" written on them anyway.

If you get any itinerary from nationalrail.co.uk, it says:

"With this ticket, using National Rail services you can travel to / from the following London stations:

London Bridge [LBG], London Cannon Street [CST], London Charing Cross [CHX], Vauxhall [VXH], London Blackfriars [BFR], London Waterloo East [WAE], London Marylebone [MYB], London Victoria [VIC], London Waterloo [WAT], London Paddington [PAD], City Thameslink [CTK]"

The journey planner there will give itineraries via Twickenham.

In summary, I would not hesitate in using a walk-up London-Banbury ticket to travel from Twickenham to Banbury.
