Hello All,

If I buy the £203.70 off peak return from London to York, is this valid via Leeds on either of the outbound or return ?

If it is, would I likely have trouble getting in / out of the station at Leeds if I were to break my journey there ?

Thanks!

Yes it is and you shouldn't have trouble. I don't know for sure if such a ticket will open the barriers or not; if not, show it to staff.

Slightly OT, but why does single leg pricing not apply for London to York? Is it because it’s valid via Leeds?

There's not a logic, it just doesn't because it doesn't. It's only Leeds in this area, and Newcastle and Edinburgh further away.

If you're at London Kings Cross and would like to travel one way to Newark it's cheaper to buy a single to Leeds at Super Off Peak times.

Interesting - I was hoping there would be some logic behind it. Thank you for the reply :)

Is break of journey allowed on the outward leg of an off-peak return ticket then?

Break of journey is allowed on any ticket unless explicitly barred by the specific conditions of the specific ticket. In this case, restriction code 1T actually states "break of journey is permitted" but it would be even if it didn't state this, unless it said the opposite, which it doesn't.
There are a number of off-peak return tickets which prohibit break of journey on the outward leg, but this isn't one of them.
Of course, this ticket is only valid for one day in the outbound direction, so overnight break of journey or longer isn’t allowed, except for the specific case noted of being unable to complete the journey in one day. Multiple overnight breaks of journey are allowed in the return direction within the one month validity. But spending a few hours in Leeds en route to York on the same day is fine.

Jeez £203 off peak, isn’t it cheaper to buy advance singles?

The single leg pricing trial reduces the range of fares available; the fare the poster is purchasing would potentially require 2 x Anytime Singles. Remember that in this country we will never be offered genuine simplification without increases in the amount of money that many people will have to pay. But it's a different topic not for this thread.

It might be; if the break of journey is under a couple of hours, Trainsplit could figure this out, if 'advanced options' are used, and additional interchange time (up to 99 mins, I believe) is specified.

Note however that some people may require flexibility.

Thanks all. I need the flexibility to be able to get different trains so can't rely on the cheaper advance tickets.

At least a free side trip to Leeds is a benefit of paying that much.

Iirc London to Leeds/York tickets are priced the same to allow travel through the other, but has this changed due to Leeds having the single fare testing? Or if not, I guess you can buy a London to Leeds ticket for a cheaper London to York single journey

The routeing validity of the tickets is unaffected by the single leg pricing 'trial'.
