Anyone heard anything about night tube training starting anytime soon?
Sadly after 18 months from submitting my application, I am still waiting for screening medical and training dates. (Though I have been offered full-time and the 20 hour part-time contract) I'm in the process at the moment of being recruited with another London-based railway company for weekend work only. (This is my preferred choice). This is progressing well, my dilemma would be if TFL were to progress my conditional offer then I would have to make quite a difficult decision to continue with TfL or progress with the new company.

Thanks @Skyflyer. It sure is a long old wait isn't it? I haven't been waiting quite as long as you but it has been a while. I wouldn't mind the 20 hour contract if they offered it to me, but I've heard nothing since I was told I got the job. I guess if the other job comes in sooner for you, then you may as well take it as you just don't know when you will get a start date with TFL. Then you would have to weigh up the pros and cons of working for each company when TFL do confirm a training date. I guess it is a good dilemma to have really! I have read on here that it might be the middle of the year so I'm thinking maybe July or August time but who knows!

Your situation would be my Ideal situation if honest as I'm awaiting VR at my work as it's going through huge changes in coming year/s and they're handing it out VR regular.
So if I was a successful applicant then was on waiting list with a guarantee that would be perfect for me .

Curious to know how long people are awaiting for their induction into training?

I can share my experience. I applied for NT Tube in August 2022 and went through a lengthy interview process that extended into November 2023. In December, I received an email congratulating me on being successful, but then to my surprise, another email arrived within a week stating they wouldn't be opening the vacancy until mid-2024. Frustrated by the wait, I decided to take their part-time weekday evening position. Unfortunately, my application is now stuck in the reference stage, and I have no idea how long this delay will last.

Did they call you or how did they communicate this with you? And secondly have you done your medicals?
They called me to book my medical after I was cleared I got my contract to sign through email. I know I definitely start on the 13th but still waiting on instructions on what time to start etc

I've been waiting for TFL to respond to Reed regarding my references for 2 weeks now (basically to get their permission to use my HMRC form and other evidence in place for a company that is no longer operating), but TFL haven't got back to them for 2 weeks and so my screening has been at a standstill ever since.
Really frustrating as I can't even get through to TFL to ask them to just reply to Reed's question.
I'm worried that the screening will time out or something not due to me, but due to TFL not doing their bit on the portal. That would be heartbreaking.

I had my role play assessment today and it was about a homeless person begging for money in the station while playing the guitar. I think it made it obvious that I was confused about how to handle the situation. After which the homeless person wanted to travel and said she didn’t have enough money to get to where she wanted to seek shelter. She was also very difficult and uncooperative. I failed the role play and couldn’t proceed to SBI. However for the sake of closure, how should I have handled this and when next can I apply for this job. I’m pretty sad because I really tried preparing for this role play thing.

I've now - worryingly - been told that there are no CS1 start dates available (even though that's what I was going through screening for)..
My worry I won't actually get to start before my offer expires or similar grows...

Good luck, bro. I hope it finishes by the end of June. I planned my holidays for August, but at this rate, I don't think I can take them then.
I tried calling Reed Screening. They advertise 24/7 service, but after waiting on hold for more than 45 minutes, no one picked up the call. They also haven't responded to my email inquiry in 10 days. I'm still waiting to hear from them.

You’ll be fine, the expiry/start date listed on Reed is just a placeholder put by HR.

My screening took over a month and passed the date listed. Luckily a ninja didn't drop out of the sky and attack me - shortly after, I passed the referencing stage. You are much better off just waiting and keeping yourself occupied with something else.

I would have asked them to leave the station, reminding them begging is not allowed. If they were uncooperative I would have told them I would have to call the BTP to remove them. If they wanted to travel without paying then I would refuse off course. Additionally I would have offered a phone number of a local shelter instead who could help them. Basically stand firm but try to be polite and never escalate the situation.

How did you handle it?

I don't know if the advert/offer you originally received had any times listed? Anyway PT 20hrs are either always morning or always evening. Eg. 0700-1100 or 1600-2000 Mon-Fri. I don't recall seeing any roster where PT staff did both.

Either way, you can always nominate to change from PT AM to PT PM or vice versa, just depends on availability of positions.

There is a new Night Tube vacancy that has been posted for those that are interested.
Thank you. This information will be helpful for new applicants, but what is the point of opening the new vacancy when they cannot fill the post with waiting applicants?

Thanks in advance
Did you sort out your shift timings problem?

What is the difference between the role play and SBI? I have my interview coming up soon. I'm really nervous about everything!

Hi

Fisrt week: CSA2 Lisense trains

Day 1: You get good stuff and introduction to most things. Nothing major. You get iPad, Free Oyster Card, maybe uniforms (make sure to bring a large luggage), or else it will be difficult to carry that large box. They will assign you a station on that day and you will have 3 days to swap with someone mutually from your group if you prefer.
Day 2: Fire module, safety and so on modules
Day 3: Begins with assessment of fire module, you need to pass which is at 80%. After assessment you do other modules such as tracks.
Day 4: Communication and tickets related modules
Day 5: Another assessment, then mostly training on Radios and how to operate them.

2nd week: CSA1 license trainni
Day 6: Mainly Traction current plus other modules
Day 7: SATS, then you go in a station to practice things like making announcements in the platform such as "stand behind the yellow line"
Day 8: Lifts and escalators training, one in Tottenham Court Road and another nearby station.
Day 9: Major assessment Covering Day 6 and 7, you need to pass it. After that you go home.
Day 10: First aid training.

3rd and 4th week, you will do live learning at a station, basically shadowing someone.

I've been waiting on a reference check from REED for the past four weeks and still haven't heard anything from them. Neither the TFL recruitment team nor REED screening picked up my calls or responded to my emails. I'm worried that my chosen training dates will pass, and I don't know what will happen next. Does anyone know how to get in touch with REED Screening? They haven't been responding to emails or phone calls.
