Hello there!
I am new to this Forum. As a matter of fact this is my first post!

I joined this community out of a professional interest since I figured I might be able to find information that I can not find anywhere else.

For example....I am trying to understand how London Underground works regarding the maintenance of its rolling stock: where are their depots located? how can I get their contact details?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you all,

G.

Most lines have one or two depots, usually with one for stabling and cleaning only, and the other carrying out major works as well.
For instance, the Bakerloo has main depot at Stonebridge Park and a smaller one at London Road (access from Lambeth North). The Central has Ruislip and Hainault. The Victoria has Northumberland Park only. Engineering trains also have a base at Lillie Bridge, by Earl's Court.
Have a look for Tubeprune's site, Clive's Underground Line Guides and District Dave - these will give you a good grounding.
Contact details will depend on what you want.

Thank you A60K!
the sites you have re-directed me to look very promising. I will have to study them carefully.

You mention that "contacts" will depend on what I am after.

So far I am trying to understand how LU works regarding the Maintenance of its units. Are they doing most maintenance by themselves? Are they sub-contracting to the trains' manufacturers? Are they setting up JV's with the trains' manufacturers to take care of the maintenance?

I am trying to offer maintenance optimisation services and so far I do not know whether I should go line by line (which would make sense if each line is responsible for its rolling stock maintenance, acting as independent Business Units), addressing each depot's Director, or if I should go looking for a central figure at LU HQ.

Until I know how they are organised it is hard for me in which direction to move. Have you got any insight on the matter?

Thank you all!

The Northern and Jubilee lines contract their train maintenance to Alsthom (the Northern was a PFI.). Everything else is done by LUL CMO or Tube Lines.

Engineers trains are mainly based at Ruislip and some at Lillie Bridge, which in a few months will also be used to stable D (and I think a few C) stock trains.

Depots (which can do engineering, repairs and cleaning type work) are: - well the ones I know for definate
Northfields (Picc)
Cockfosters (Picc)
Ealing Common (Dist)
Upminster (Dist)
Hammersmith (C&H)
Neasden (Met)
Stratford Market (Jub)
Morden (Nor)
Golders Green (Nor)

There are of course some (but not all) stabling sidings where trains can be prepped for service, this is done every 24 hours. Traction Current needs to be on for 24 hours for this: such as Parsons Green.

Thank you DavyCrocket!

is LUL CMO an acronym for something related to Maintenance?

What door should I knock to have an initial contact with someone at LU Maintenance division?

Thank you all, this is helping me a great deal to understand how LU is organised!

Again, thank you!

CMO is Chief Maintenance Officer. Their office is I still think at Templar House, Holborn.

As I've just re-read your post and seen that you are trying to offer a service to TfL, have a look at the TfL website. There's a link there for procurement.
