Hi everybody!

Just a question that may have been asked before (I've looked but couldn't find any thread), does anybody know the selection process for applications for a maintenance fitter? I would have thought it was just a interview but whilst trying to find out on here I'm seeing all sorts of other tests/interviews and I wondered if they would apply to me were I successful with my application?

Thanks in advance

Hi, most toc's (not sure about foc's) usually do some kind of selection test nowdays, things like mechanical comp, spatial test, and something else like a maths test working out volumes, how many triangles fit in this shape, etc.

i know fcc,fgw do (not sure about all the first groups) even for semi skilled staff as well but the test vary slightly.

Have you applied for a job for a fitter/technician, if so which train operating company?

cheers

Thanks cab2cab, I've applied for a role within Northern Rail. I'm assuming that these tests would be carried out after the interview or would they be post interview if successful?
Thanks

Hi again,
I know at fcc my friend applied for assistant service engineer and about 8-10 people sat through the tests in the same room. The people that passed then stayed behind to have a interview with 2 production managers.

Don't forget tho every TOC's does things differently, so?

Good luck anyway!!!!

Hi,
I applied, had an Interview with 2 managers and was then sent for psychometric testing. This involved Mechanical reasoning, fault finding and vocational reasoning. Check out this web site as the sample tests are pretty similar. www.psychometric-success.com
I was then told I had passed and was offered a conditional offer of employment. This requires passing a medical and getting a basic disclosure in Scotland. (Think its a CRB check in England). Just waiting to hear if the medical and background checks are ok and hopefully getting a start date soon. I'm desperate to leave my current job!
Hope this helps.

Not sure if they are all the same but my northern depot just interviewed me after application and I got the job. Pending medical of course

It was about 6 months in total from applying to starting though.

PM me any questions if you wish
