Man sits opposite me on a lightly loaded Bakerloo line 1972TS and puts his feat on seat next to me + people putting bags on seats on an empty train

Not to mention sitting on the floor of an overcrowded train. I've done it myself. For the avoidance of doubt, I'm firmly against feet on seats.

Same. But aside from wheeled cases I'm not in agreement with bags being unsanitary, just inconsiderate if the train is busy enough for the seat to be needed. Rucksacks and laptop bags don't spend much if any time on the floor.

Are shoes more unsanitary than bags, or overcoats, or peoples’ bottoms through trousers, skirts etc.? So long as they’re not obviously muddy/dirty I don’t really see the issue personally.

The Paris RER has fixed this by putting metal bars under the seats on some trains. let's people stretch their legs without using the seat

Indeed. If only UK rolling stock was designed more thoughtfully it would be less of an issue. ‘72 stock, as pictured in the OP, has virtually no legroom on the transverse seats. So if you’re tall it’s difficult to sit comfortably. The bay seating on Networkers is another example of this.
