I was looking up London Marylebone on Real Time Trains and it also came up with Manchester London Road, but if you look it up it doesn't list any trains.

I knew that Manchester Piccadilly station used to be called Manchester London Road but according to Wikipedia it was renamed Piccadilly in 1960.

Is there still a location on the railway called Manchester London Road, or is that just a glitch in the system?

If its got a TIPLOC (7 letter/number code for train planning timing point locations) then its probably picked up. There are lots and lots of TIPLOCs that exist that are defunct or have nothing associated with them.

Manchester London Road was the signal box which controlled Manchester Piccadilly between 14 December 1959 and 15 October 1988; it was one of the early power signalboxes built for the WCML electrification, of similar vintage to Wilmslow and Sandbach, both of which have also gone. This meant that the signals on the platforms at Manchester Piccadilly had prefix "LR". Its replacement "Manchester Piccadilly" was initially in the tower block above the station. London Road signal box building was demolished starting at the end of 2007.

In other words, although it doesn't exist any more, it lasted until much more recently than 1960.

Potentially before Network rail had a change of heart in the "Everything must go in the ROC" plans. Now in the too difficult pile.

It really ought to revert to it's former name of Manchester London Road. Piccadilly is not exactly an apposite indication of it's location!

Exactly the same as Birmingham New Street. Everything was moved to a big signalling centre except the one remaining station panel. Less of a problem at New St, but Man Picc has some very long waits handing trains over.

That said, the ability of station staff to speak to the box directly via handheld radio is key, so that should be factored in with any move.

No TIPLOC, but NLC 286500 is shown as "MANCHESTER LONDON ROAD(CLSD)".

A redundant location then that RTT seems to have included in its Pick List just because.

Rather, a redundant location that is in the feed RTT receives and is automatically processed the same was as all other locations.

But, as it has no TIPLOC, is cannot be a timetable location - so RTT should be filtering it out on that basis.

There are around 55,000 NLCs, of which just under 12,000 also have TIPLOCs. What does RTT do with those other 43,000 locations that do not have TIPLOCs?

The version RTT will be using is NLC 296801 with TIPLOC MNCRLRD

We have been talking to the box via radio from Manchester Victoria to the ROC at Ardwick for a few years now, so not an insurmountable problem :D

Rumour has it the Piccadilly Manrail works as far away as a certain chain establishment in Piccadilly Gardens where you can order food to your table via an app.

Oh... Allegedly. We only found out after someone forgot to take it off their belt after work. ;)

Interestingly, the STANOX descrption attached to that location describes it as "MAYFDLOOP". Possibly then the old link from the main line to the former Mayfield parcels depot (and what was Mayfield station before that).
