Hi all, Sorry I am a new user here so apologises if this this comes across as a bit naive.

Can anyone give me some starter points or is it even possible to access the railway network map? Like this screenshot https://lh3.ggpht.com/-y5Tm7onO-kg/UUBm4uGHY4I/AAAAAAAAEVo/jIO3ga81Eog/s1600/IMG_1079.JPG

As in is there any resource that to see the map that displays live signal statuses, train heading codes/posistions and junctions?

If I'm not clear in what I'm looking for, the aircraft equivalent being flightradar24 or ADS-B with a software defined radio to track plane posistions, which I have set up before,
is it possible to do a similar thing with the rail network?

How would I go about accessing this network? If not can anyone provide some resources on how this network operates with technical details?

Thank you. - listener100

https://traksy.uk has a significantly wider area of coverage if you're looking for info about what train is at what signal (just search for a station and if a "Map" button appears there's a map...), but it has less coverage of signal aspects and ready-to-start buttons.

Thanks to both, these are great. In particular, my mother spotted a steam train (I never knew she liked them) and asked me what it was doing. I wouldn't have tracked it down without these. I'm also finding them really fun.

Railcams U.K. Is worth a look as it offers a range of lineside cameras and a large selection of live track diagrams. There's annual supporters fee to cover costs (around £15) but it's ideal for railside views and more.
