London, Surrey... bit of a blur round here...
While visiting the... ahem... 'facilities' at Marylebone station earlier on, I noticed a bit of a Monopoly theme going on.

Which made me to wonder...

If Marylebone had been turned into a coach station in the 80s, would they have changed the Monopoly board? Any speculation on what might have taken Marylebone's place?

I'd have put Waterloo or Victoria in its place. How can you not have the UK's busiest station there?

There would have been no more reason to change the stations than to change the streets. The stations were not removed after nationalisation, neither were the utilities, even though you could no longer buy them. The classic Monopoly board has remained the same in spite of vast changes in the actual values in various areas of London. Incidentally, all of the stations on the board are LNER properties, which is why such obscure stations as Marylebone and Fenchurch Street are included. Was this an early example of "product placement" or just because Waddington's people travelled to London on the LNER?

That'll make it into a somebody's pub quiz soon!

Did LNER actually run any trains into Fenchurch Street after the Blackwall railway closed? I'm assuming that the majority of services were operated by LMS?

Yes, the LNER ran into Fenchurch St until post-WW2 with services from Ilford/Hainault and from the Ongar line, as well as the GE main. I believe they stopped when the Central Line was extended beyond Stratford in 1948, so services may just have lasted into BR days.

The Blackwall line was given up in 1926.

They still owned it, more to the point. Bet the rent per train wasn't at Monopoly levels though
