Looks like Greater Anglia introduced two new rangers today - just appeared on their rangers and rovers webpage:

Mayflower Line : Ipswich to Harwich Town

Sunshine Coast Line : Colchester - Clacton/Walton on the Naze

Mayflower Line Day Ranger is £11.00. Cost is 50p more than an Off Peak Day Return from Ipswich to/from Harwich Town.

Sunshine Coast Line Day Ranger product is £12.50 which is just 40p more than an Off Peak Day Return from Colchester to/from Walton-on-the-Naze (or Clacton-on-Sea).

Railcard discounts are available.

Interestingly the Mayflower Ranger is showing as not valid/available at Manningtree, where just about all trains terminate. All well and good valid at Ipswich but...really?!

Beat me to it. Only two trains per day from Ipswich onto (or off) the Mayflower line that don't require a change at Manningtree. And midweek, that's effectively one train per day, due to ticket time restrictions. Someone at Greater Anglia possibly needs to have a hasty re-think!

Interesting, they are bringing out new day rangers for those lines. The "Sunshine Coast" product might be useful for those wanting to walk the coastal path between Walton & Clacton

As for the Mayflower line, having validity to Ipswich but not Manningtree makes little sense considering that the vast majority of trains towards Harwich come from Manningtree. Did they include Ipswich instead of Manningtree?

Would it be a fair guess that the areas up to the limit of the Oval area (I think Witham?) won't be getting their own rangers / rovers?

I’m assuming there’s no plans of extending this with the Anglia Plus rover?

I’m not sure if this is a good deal - considering the buses in Essex already links up Harwich and Clacton to Colchester for way cheaper for a day out and quite frequent too.

It is not a bad deal relative to the day return, which is surely what is relevant. The buses are, presumably, already cheaper than the current rail tickets.

What potentially makes it not that useful is that the fares to Clacton or Walton from further afield are often not much more than those to Colchester, so it is only really of use to people already in the area.

They don't seem to be out of scale with the existing 'line of route' rangers in Suffolk and Norfolk.

Breaking your journey and using the AAA Clacton tickets would still remain cheaper. A shame these two areas aren't merged.

Given one of the publicity photos was at Manningtree, I’d agree it looks like Manningtree should be in the list of stations instead of Ipswich.

Having just checked with GA, the Mayflower Line Ranger covers both Manningtree and Ipswich through to Harwich Town.

For completeness, the Sunshine Coast Ranger covers Colchester - Colchester Town/Clacton-on-Sea/Walton-on-the-Naze.

Looks like someone has now tweaked the relevant GA webpage since yesterday! Good it's been sorted!
