Out of interest how many Merseyrail stations have barriers?

The ones I know of:
Liverpool Central
Liverpool James Street
Liverpool Lime Street (Lower Level)
Liverpool South Parkway
Hamilton Square
Chester (ATW barriers)

2242 Liverpool Central
2270 Liverpool Lime St Ll
2226 Moorfields & Old Hall Street
2244 Liverpool James Street
3624 Conway Park
2219 Birkenhead Hamilton Square
2262 Southport
2412 Chester
9709 Liverpool South Parkway

So basically all the Underground stations, plus South Parkway, Conway Park and Southport with ATW operating Chester.

Have heard a few rumours about other stations being barriered, but nothing concrete, actually very doubtful due to extra staff requirement which would probably cost more than the lost revenue.

I would imagine that Waterloo, Hooton, Maghull and Ormskirk may be rather good candidates.

I'm trying to imagine where you would put barriers at Ormskirk?

Plus you would have to be careful because of the Northern service, you'd have to have an excess fare window/staff with avantix to sell tickets to passengers coming off that service if they weren't able to purchase tickets (and wanted to get out/buy a Merseyrail ticket).
