As Parkland Walk is very protected how about tunnelling the line instead and connecting it with the Piccadilly Line at Finsbury Park thus satisfying both the walkers, cyclists, environmentalists and commuters all at once.

There's been plenty threads on the goods line conversions from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace (and new platforms), but you mean the old Northern Heights route? I haven't heard anything about this.

If I was going to re-open Northern Heights, I would do it as a branch of Northern City, or altenatively Victoria or Picadilly. I would also extend the Alexandra Palace line to Wood Green or thereabouts on Picadilly, and get the Northern line split.

Hooking up the old route to the Northern City is a no-brainer, but I'd be tempted to solve the Muswell Hill problem by sending a TBM though the hill from Highgate aiming for the Hertford Loop.

There's a big height difference between the old 'northern heights' Alexandra Palace station and Wood Green tube... you'd probably have to build a massive viaduct to even out the gradient.

What do people think of this proposal map? I assume the proposed South Bank station could be connected to the extended Blackfriars. I'm an advocate of well-connected systems, which is why I like this plan in particular.
Also, there's this old discussion from District Dave forums.

That's what I mentioned earlier - will be useful for increasing capacity into Moorgate.

I think one of the route options for Crossrail 2 uses a small section of the northern end of the Northern Heights route.
That option for Crossrail 2 currently starts at Alexandra Palace - Wood Green - Seven Sisters and to Hackney to join the core route through London.

As in branch the Piccadilly line north of Finsbury Park?

Manor House is my local station; I don't know if you've ever tried to get on a Piccadilly line train at Manor House during the morning peak but if there is even a slight slip in service frequency they arrive already at capacity. Halving the service frequency between Manor House and Cockfosters would be disastrous.
