Back in 2017 on this forum I posted a list of all the named trains running on the network as scheduled trains and with the help of others comments completed it to as accurate list as possible. I also used the Railway Magazine 2012 publication The Encyclopaedia Of Titled Trains which was and possibly still is the most comprehensive publication on the subject, which covered not just the current trains but all in the past British history.

Then again in 2020 I updated it which only involved minor alteration. Of course since then we have Covid 19 and all the disruptions that caused. As far as named/titled trains were concerned they virtually all disappeared. Things have now settled down somewhat and I will be interested to see what the new May 2023 timetable throw up, but in the meantime I would like to tell you my findings and ask if anyone can let me know of any I may have missed.

The first thing to say is that the tradition of naming trains was largely wiped out as a result of Covid and the desire of TOC to reinstate them has gone. GWR who were by far the most prolific which at the last count were 20, have now all been dropped. Another post on this forum debates The Night Rivera as to whether it’s now a named train as previously or now just a brand name. Likewise LNER have dropped all theirs including the iconic The Flying Scotsman. In fact East Midlands trains are the only company I can find who include named trains in their timetables and they are as follows….

The Sheffield Continental 04:58 Sheffield to St. Pancras 1C05 returning as…
The South Yorkshireman 18:02 St.Pancras to Sheffield 1F65
The Master Cutler 07:33 Sheffield to St.Pancras 1C20 and return….17:08 1F60
The Robin Hood 06:40 Lincoln to St.Pancras 1B19 and return to Nottingham 17:35 1D63

Back in 2021 Arriva Train Wales annonced the return of The Gerard Of Wales (Y Gerallt Gyumto) 05:11 Holyhead to Cardiff and 17:16 return which included a dinning car. However this has traditionally never appeared in timetables for some reason so I am uncertain if this is still running and welcome any help.

Any further clarification would be appreciate.
