Not angry, just puzzled, for many years I have had a standing order to buy lottery tickets every week,I recently decided not to bother any more so I cancelled it,the reply I received was that you will not be able to buy lottery tickets any more online

"YOU'VE NOW BEEN EXCLUDED FROM PLAYING

Hi Andrew

Your lifetime (permanent) exclusion from playing all draw games and Instant Win Games on the National Lottery website is now in place.

Any money in your account will be transferred to the debit card registered to your account. Any current tickets will continue to be entered into the relevant draws. We will contact you by email if you win any prizes.

Please note that the lifetime exclusion cannot be reversed and you will not be able to open a new National Lottery account"

seems a bit strange, anyone know why they adopt this policy ?

Did you not change any settings in your online account? You normally set your own lifetime exclusion should you wish to do so.

I'm sorry you've been having some trouble with the National Lottery. It seems unfair that canceling a standing order would result in you being excluded from playing altogether.
Thanks,it seems when I cancelled the standing order I inadvertently excluded myself,no matter !

Presumably you can still buy a ticket at a shop the old fashioned way, should you wish to do so?

I haven't played the Lottery for donkey's years, but presumably this feature is there for the online version as a control for "problem" gambling? In which case, it's possibly likely to push a relapsing problem gambler to the far less scrupulous online bookmakers.

Do you mean a direct debit?

In almost all cases, just cancelling a direct debit is the wrong way to stop a service, you need to cancel it with the supplier.

Unless you continue to receive services (eg energy supplies) or paying in arrears then there is no problem cancelling the direct debit without prior warning, particularly for subscription services. That is the nice thing about DD as you have full control.

It's a breach of contract at e.g. quite a few gyms, so it is worth speaking to the company first, and only once you've agreed termination of the contract cancel it.

(curiously though some gyms do cancellations that way, e.g. PureGym)

Isn’t it an academic respons? Camelot lost the franchise and a new outfit is taking over (imminently)? It’s probably sour grapes- nothing you did.

The new company has already taken over, Camelot sold them the remaining year or so of their franchise for £100m.
