I don't normally post in the GD but reckon this is the best place for asking.

Has anyone ever undertook a Nebosh General Certificate qualification ? I'm leaving my job next week after over 20 years (Facilities Manager) and having a break to think about what I want to do next. I have an IOSH qualification which needs refreshing but Nebosh probably carries more weight on a CV.

If anyone who has done it could share their experience (good and bad) and whether or not it opened more doors or better oppprtunities that would be much appreciated.

I have a NEBOSH National General Cert and I'm currently working towards the National Diploma. The certificate is a really good foundation if you're going to be doing work with elements of safety management; I would recommend doing it in the classroom as you get the benefit of networking with people from a wide range of industries.

Going from something like IOSH Managing Safely to a NEBOSH cert is a common path and no doubt you'll have encountered many health and safety related things working in facilities management.

I think it's moved to an open book examination now, which can be a challenge trying to fit around other commitments versus an exam which is just a couple of hours out of your life.

It's a well respected qualification and certainly suitable for a range of different management roles where you're in charge of premises, people, or health and safety management.

That's great and i agree about the classroom setting which was very beneficial when I was doing my BIFM Facilities management qualification, people from a wide range of industries there.
The British Safety Council run the nebosh course in central london (I've used them before for Display screen equipment training) so they are very reputable, it's on the pricey side at around 1500 quid but it ought be worth the investment , there was no way I'd have been able to balance it whilst at work, it's no doubt pretty intensive !!
