Not sure if this is the correct section to post this, but I started with NR on 02/04/2024, does this mean I was not entitled to the pay rise that was agreed in September, I've just checked E-Pay and there is no backpay, the basic is the same, nothing!

Someone will probably correct me if I'm wrong but if you are talking about the most recent pay award, I don't think the increase comes in until January. It will apply to everyone, regardless of start date.

Thanks for the response, I'm talking about the pay award for this year, I was under the impression that all backpay and the actual 4.5% increase would be showing in the 06/12 pay advise?

Honestly can't answer that, I haven't started yet and am just going off of what I was told by HR.

If you are a signaller you may want to post on the signallers career thread as loads of people are there and I'm sure someone will be able to answer.

Don't want to dishearten you but I too started with NR on 2 April (2007) when the annual pay rise agreement was much delayed. When it was eventually (back) paid as from 1 April, I was told I wasn't eligible as I wasn't in their employ at that date - which was a Sunday! Hey ho.

There's certainly a payment of backpay in the Friday's pay day (minus the £700 advance payment). You may need to raise this issue with your line manager or HR Business Partner.

Yeah, I've been shown a document that say's if you started on or after the 01/01/2024 you are not entitled to the 2024 pay award. The galling part is I was offered the job in December 2023 and accepted it! Oh well they are not going to change their rules just for me.

That is very stingy. Surprised the Unions let them do this

I'm surprised at that, so if you started in January 2024 you would be eligible for the 2025 pay award, but if the negotiations for that rumble on and all your back pay and pay award is sorted in December 2025, that means an individual would go nearly 2 years without a pay increase, that's just not on.

I’m very shocked that this is the case. The simple fact is, you were working there when said pay deal should have been agreed, therefore you should get back dated pay like any other employee for monies owed once the deal is finally agreed. They’ve basically underpaid anybody who falls under this category and I’m absolutely stunned that any Union would allow that to be the case.

There is a difference between being offered and accepting a job and when you actually start the job and therefore being employed (and paid) by them.
For example in August 2023 I was offered and accepted a job on promotion in a different Civil Service Department to my existing job.
But I didnt get my payrise on promotion until Nov 2023 when I actually started my new job.

I have since been told that the date they recognise is when the offer details are sent out and if this date is after 01/01 of each year. So eg, if it was after 01/01/2024 you would not get any pay award in 2024, no matter when the pay award if finalised for that year. My offer letter was actually sent in December 2023, but because I thought the initial offer was low I was sent a revised offer in February 2024, so the revised offer date is the date they go off. It still baffles me how the unions allow this as 2024 pay award was not settled until September, and when the industrial action was taking place in 2022, were new starters in 2022 going on strike, losing pay, but then not being awarded the 2022 pay rise?

You haven't actually clarified what it is that you do which will determine what pay agreement you are subject to? Are you a signaller or role clarity for example??

If you're on role clarity then you don't get the pay rise if you join the company after the cut off date.

That's not correct...you would be correctly paid for 2024 as you aren't entitled to the pay award due to not being employed at the relevant time.

When 1/1/2025 arrives you are then in exactly the same situation as everyone else - waiting for the outcome of the pay negotiations.

If you don't agree you could always look elsewhere. And in any case you stated you negotiated your salary (so clearly aren't subject to Signaller pay scales for example) - presumably when you declined the offer of pay that you considered to be too low and then received an increased offer you must have been happy as you accepted it. If you tell us what your actual role is and what pay scales you are employed under then we might be able to offer more relevant advice???
