Network Rail TDA Application - York

I have recently applied for a TDA (Train Delay Attributor) role with Network Rail based at York.

Though the job advert said there was no previous experience required. My background is in System Administration and Data Manipulation. I am a volunteer driver at a tourist railway in Northumberland.

I was looking for any advice on the interview process for this role if anyone has gone through it recently or has experience doing the job. I just want to try and be as prepared as possible.

Thanks in advance
Craig

Hi I dont work in TDA, but Network Rail interviews tend to follow the STARR process.

Situation, Task, Action, Results, and, Reflection

So think of some examples and responses... use a blend of personal and non work related. Maybe also do bit of research on the life saving rules, and the network rail values to drop into any responses. (if not already covered that base).

I did know a person who moved into TDA role, and she seemed to like, i think she did 8hr day shifts and 12hr weekend shifts (but that was a while back).

Thank you Andy, I was aware of STAR so STARR is a new one on me. But wouldn’t take much to alter an answer really.

Thanks for your reply.

The whole job is about interpreting data, spotting patterns and investigating causes of delay. So you'll likely be asked to provide examples of your problem-solving abilities, and investigation and communication skills. They want to know you can work quickly and accurately.

Thanks Javelin, that’s logical and makes sense. Pretty much my day job now and for the last 12 years, but as a systems administrator instead. I’m sure the skills are transferable.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Regards,
Craig
