I've just come across this live TV "Trainspotting" mention, but can't find any confirmation using Digigide.

The BBC expects the live broadcast to appeal to the masses – not just die-hard trainspotting enthusiasts such as those who will feature alongside the presenters from various vantage points across the country.

Anyone with a passion for British history, travel and engineering is expected to enjoy the show, and the public will be encouraged to share their own trainspotting footage....

Seems to be a new one! I hope Mr Snow, slows down as he does get over excited at times.

What's on offer cannot be as good as NRK's (Norwegian BBC) 9 hour plus cab ride from Trondheim to Bodo. I have all four versions of the journey, one for each season of the year. Fantastic stuff.

Not a new idea of course, back in 1989 the BBC did a whole week of live broadcasts from trains, stations and Donny PSB :) .....

Railwatch was a week-long daily series, broadcast between 13th and 17th February 1989, which looked at various aspects of the British Rail. It took the viewers on a fascinating journey behind the scenes British Rail's eastern region to show how the railway works. Featuring Penny Bustin, Rob Curling, Malcolm Mckeag and Paul Coia, the team produced reports and carried out interviews on a live show. The live show was hosted by renowned anchorman, Mike Smith. The episodes provided a detailed look into the working of train service and people associated with the organization. The episodes covered a variety of topics, including the weekly shift patterns and travel details of a train driver, John Swaybe. It also closely followed the weekly workings of HST power car 43108, which was repainted into Intercity Swallow livery for the series. With an actual cameraman holding a camera in the cab, the viewers could enjoy the captured speed well as compared to other tripod mounted cab ride videos.

Does the article say when it will be shown?

Re-reading the original news item, it looks as though it's advanced information about an idea that's just been commissioned by the BBC, but of course, I could be wrong. If they don't have enough "live" trainspotters it could be closer to watching paint dry; and being live, there's always a good chance that the links will fail when needed.

It worked in 1989....

Didn't they cover the whole journey from Kings Cross to Donny, and when they reached the Doncaster PSB area, covered it both from the train and the Powerbox as it traveled along ?

This is happening.

Just listened to a piece on Radio 5 Live about it.

No dates given for transmission though.

At the time when Voyagers and Pendolinos were just being introduced i recall i program called "Trainspotting"; featured a bit where Michael Palin went to his train naming celebration event type thing, with a mini-interview on the train etc.

Yes, that guy in charge at Doncaster PSB must have become quite well known by the end of the week
