Northern are offering unlimited travel on their services for £10 per day (off-peak) or £17.50 per weekend. Prospective passengers simply have to collect two tokens from participating newspapers, fill in a form and hand it in at "a staffed station within the Northern network".

Does anybody know which staffed stations this includes? Does it include stations at which Northern Trains call, but are not run by Northern. In my case, I am thinking of Liverpool Lime Street, Chester or ideally Ellesmere Port even though I am unlikely to actually start by day on a NT train from ELP.

brfares.com actually shows a

I183 NORTHERN DAY RGR
NOR NORTHERN ONLY DAY RANGER

from 1 Oct 23. Is this the same ticket or can anybody buy it?

This is the ticket. In theory any ticket office can issue it, in practice we are told we must have the form and tokens, as we have to stamp it and write the numbers of the tickets issued on it

Is this a new offer, or the one that was available a few weeks ago ?

I collected tokens in their offer earlier in the year and had everything planned for a day full of adventure, made more awkward as I help out with the school run for my granddaughter and my wife works full time.

It was all systems go, but on the day it was raining everywhere, so i didn't bother.

I even made a post about it here .. How far could I travel in a day, with Northern Rail's £10 offer .. from Newcastle

I've just been down to Ellesmere Port station and, try though he did, the kind gentleman in the ticket office was unable to get his machine to find and sell me the ticket. He tried the I183 code, he tried different starting stations, including some Northern only ones, but nothing worked. So I had to drive 8 miles and back to buy my ticket at Chester, a TfW statiion, where I bought my ticket with no problem.

Has anybody succeeded, or had difficulty, in buying these tickets at other Merseyrail stations which are also served by Northern? Ormskirk and Kirkby are the most obvious equivalents to Ellesmere Port - and Southport comes into the same category.

I am trying to find out whether this is part of Northern's plans to discourage Ellesmere Port passengers. 75% of trains of the twice daily trains have been cancelled in recent weeks despite complaints from the local user group, my MP and local Chester & Cheshire West council.
