Hi there,

I was hoping someone could advise me. I applied for the Engineering apprenticeship at Heaton Depot, Newcastle. I haven't heard anything from Northern Rail since I applied just over two weeks ago - I did, however, recieve an e-mail stating the process could take up to 6 weeks to recieve an interview or next stage offer.

My question is; should I call Northern Rail and ask for an update, or should I just wait and take the information I was given from the e-mail? I'm sure you all know it's horrible having to wait, especially as it could be a simply no thank you.

This role is very, very interesting to me and I am really hopeful!

What do you guys recommend?

Thank you

You're probably better off waiting to be honest, maybe give them a ring in a couple of weeks or so but as you've probably already gathered with railway jobs most of it is just a waiting game whilst the HR departments sift through applications etc

I have a friend who applied for the same position at Neville Hill and recieved a letter inviting them to testing near the end of July.

Hmm, that kind of sets alarm bells ringing. I just hope they are sorting out Neville Hill first!

dunno mate, was no email reply i'm informed just a letter through the post, hes a bit of an older apprentice so chuckled at the part about parents being invited to the interview too  yes they probably are doing them in area stages or maybe some sifts are taking longer due to high volumes

I'm older too! :)

I'm actually looking for a career change, and I am very interested in engineering, specifically rail and power. I do have my fingers crossed, even just for an interview - I will let you know if I hear anything.

Kind regards,

I've just received confirmation that I won't be invited to an interview. Absolutely gutted.

still no word back from the testing stages, having scored 63/100 do you think he will be asked to continue or is this a low score?
