I recently applied for a non driving role with Northern (got to interview but was unsuccessful). The same position has been re advertised only 3 months later and I'd like to apply again.

I've asked the question by email with HR but thought I'd ask on here as I'm likely to get a quicker response......... Do you have to wait a given time before you can reapply for the same position? (I know a lot of places outside the rail industry say you can't reapply for 6 months)

Did the ’unsuccessful’ letter you received after interview state you couldn’t reapply for 6 months? If not, then you are free to reapply.

Some vacancies with Northern, such as trainee conductor, tend to have a six month cooling period if you have been unsuccessful. Northern should tell you in their standard rejection e-mail. If in any doubt, e-mail their HR.

All depends on what the rejection email says I guess. I was knocked back in the summer for a conductor role, another came up 3 months later which I applied for and got an interview.
No mention of 6 months on the rejection so thought I try my luck.

Thanks for the replies folks - there was no mention of it in the email so looks like I'm good to go. Better luck this time I hope

Im in the same position and nothing was mentioned in my rejection email regarding when I can next apply. However when I got the feedback about my interview it stated:

'We hope that you find this feedback useful, and we wish you well for the future. You are encouraged to apply again in 6 months’ time if the conductor opportunity is still of interest to you.'

Don't know whether to apply again. Would hate to get to interview again or even be offered the job and then be dismissed due to the 6 months rule.

Sounds like you do have to wait then as mine didn't say that (mine wasn't a conductor role)

[email protected] should be able to clarify but don't expect an instant response........

Hello, hope everyone is doing well. Sorry if this isn’t the correct forum, I’m a completely new to this. I’ve been offered an interview in January and I was wondering if anyone could share any helpful tips? It would be much appreciated.

I wonder why you have to wait six months to reapply for a job that you’ve applied for even if you’ve been unsuccessful?

What roles it for?
I've found this forum is a goldmine for advice. If you use the search bar at the top pretty much all questions will have already been asked/answered.
Good luck with your interview.

Because application numbers are massively higher than the number of vacancies. If someone has been recently unsuccessful they can be immediately weeded out, making the paper sift of the remaining applicants easier.

Also if you did not meet requirements you are unlikely to do so again until you have had time to develop/learn/grow/reflect etc. Its very common (especially in healthcare) to see a job re-advertised and it says previous applicants need not apply.

Just to clarify, Northern do not state anywhere that you have to wait six months from an unsuccessful application.

The only official 6 month wait is when someone fails a psychometric test, for dispatcher, conductor, driver or signaller. Anything else is added by companies, but nowhere do Northern mention that in their pre-application garb, or in their rejection email. You should note with Northern they have a habit of readvertising the same job, which looks like a new advert (going by the date it goes up on) however you only know when you apply as the page is locked.

One thing that has changed... they have been messing around with the Northern Online Test rules again. Just three weeks ago, a lady in HR emailed Candidate 1 agreeing to carry their successful test results over (as was written in their guidelines garb) but five days later Candidate 2 asked to carry their successful results over - she refused, and the garb was very quickly (suspiciously) edited... so Northern's online tests now ALL have to be done again for every single application, although I am aware there is an investigation into why she contradicted herself then changed the rules.
