Does anyone know if any plans have been made regarding NRE and their parent RDG under the GBR nationalisation plans?

Is it planned to keep NRE and RDG as a privately owned company or will it eventually get nationalised too?

Just wondering if anyone has any information as i am struggling to find much on what the plans are for them?

Most of the functions of NRE/RDG will lie within GBR's remit, though we don't know how they will be delivered..
But there will still be a need for the private sector companies to have a voice somewhere in the setup, including, say, third party retailers.

Is there a long term purpose in third party retailers? Ireland seems to manage perfectly well without them

Each train operator member (all of them) owns a relatively equal share in most of the RDG organisations/businesses. RDG isn't one organisation, it's several, e.g. fares and ticketing is largely Rail Settlement Plan Ltd, Rail Staff Travel another etc.

When the train operators are nationalised, their share is too - and is transferred, which will eventually make the DfT the ultimate, and owner of the majority of the shares and give them the ability to control it's activities.

Open Access, and freight members will still have their share I suspect, but they'll be going against the DfT majority if they have a disagreement about a business decision.

It is currently a contractual and regulatory requirement to be a member.
