Does anyone have any experience of working for Ontrak, does it increase your chances of getting a permanant job with a TOC.

Most of the Ontrak agency staff I've seen have been hanging around stations in groups of four or five, cracking jokes and watching videos on their phones. It's not even clear why they are there. If I was in charge of permanent TOC recruitment (which I'm not), I wouldn't see experience "working" for Ontrak as something that would stand someone out of the crowd of other prospective candidates with no prior railway experience.

I have to agree with the above comment...my TOC which uses a lot of agency staff (not necessarily Ontrak).

They bring nothing to the table IMO and disgruntle permanent staff.

Whilst we're on the point, what are the prospects of working for one of these agencies? Is it worthwhile just to gain experience or would you say that it wouldn't make much of a difference in terms of recruitment to a permanent position? Always thought that alot of railway staff are hired from recruitment agencies but just never knew how many and if it was a good path to follow.

Well every year (usually just before New Years) my TOC makes a cull of agency staff.

Some are kept on who have worked hard and want to be there.

The others are given a few weeks notice and it’s “Adios”.

Seems brutal but in my experience they’re underpaid and under appreciated so what’s their incentive to be there?
