Can I buy a flexible return from the driver for Stratford London to Stansted ?
Is it the same price as online? (£22.80)
For the return journey, am I ok to not validate the return ticket if there's an available space?

Thanks

The fares guide for National Express' A8 shows the on-board Open Return fare (return portion valid for 3 months) as £22.
You can purchase return tickets from the driver, although this is subject to availability on the service.
If you're boarding at Stratford however, there are ticket machines available at the bus station and you may be directed to use these when operational - bus station ticket machines will charge a £2 booking fee, whilst the driver does not charge a booking fee.

Thank you for this. I get £22.80 and £25 on the website, not sure why there is a discrepancy. It doesn't make sense for me why people would book in advance using a Open Return, because of the risk of missing it.

The Airport Bus Express seems to go from the same bus station, so hopefully that will reduce the waiting time.

Presumably there's a risk of missing it if you don't book online if there's no availability
