Out of London Travelcard validity

We will be making several journeys within Zones 1-2 before traveling to Hatfield to stay at a friend's house. After checking the fares, I found that purchasing a Hatfield to Zone 1-6 Travelcard is the cheaper option. Will the Travelcard be valid if we begin our journey in London?

Day of travel: Saturday
Family & Friends Railcard (2 adults + 2 kids [9/14])

Yes, it will be valid for a single journey to Hatfield. You are, effectively, discarding the outward part of the ticket from Hatfield into London's zones.

It should be valid on the journey you intend to make.

However, please consider the following:
Considering that you only want to travel outside the morning peak, due to your Railcard not being valid in morning peak times, you will probably be interested in an Off-Peak Day Travelcard.
If I were you, I would buy an Off-Peak Day Travelcard (zones 1-6) just for London, and then also buy a Super Off-Peak Day Single from Boundary Zone 6 to Hatfield, as this would be a bit cheaper. (total comes out to £36.70 with a F&F Railcard for all passengers, instead of £44.90)

Avanti's website is the most convenient place to buy Boundary Zone tickets from in my opinion (not all ticket pages do), and they let you buy Travelcards during the same purchase.

(Update: see post below)

Thanks. Through Thameslinks website it is around 32.7 with F&F railcard. Hatfield to Z1-6 travelcard.

Ah, right, I forgot to include Thameslink's fare combinations, where they'd issue you and your adult companion a Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard each, and a "Accompanied Child Flat Fare (Travelcard)" for the children for £2 each.

I suppose that is the cheaper option, stick with Thameslink in this case.
