Hi, please could someone advise, I have tried to find out myself, but to no avail...

Is the £2.90 Oyster PAYG fare on National Rail enquiries from Shepherd's Bush to Watford Junction valid on the Southern service or only on London Overground?

Thanks!

Yes, it is. Despite being a TfL-LU fare this is one of the NR routes where that scale applies (mainly because it parallels LO I suspect)

Yes, it can be used on any operator serving stations on that route. Southern, LO, LNWR and Bakerloo.

In most cases it's simply not practical for them to charge different fares on oyster/contactless based on operator either because the operators share platforms at most/all of the stations or because it would be extremely difficult to seperate the platforms behind different gatelines.

The Netherlands have platform validations for use when travelling on high speed services

What is the situation with freedom passes? I think London residents have travel on the overground but not on main line.

Correct. LNWR and Southern are not valid beyond Harrow & Wealdstone.

Which makes it even more confusing that the Oyster PAYG fare IS valid!!!
Not really. London Council Freedom Passes are valid on all TfL services, but only on a few bits outside of zones 1-6 operated by other TOCs (eg Dartford). So in the case of Watford Junction, the last station in zone 6 is Hatch End, but only LO services stop there anyway. The last station that other operators call at is Harrow & Wealdstone.

There are lots of places that accept Oyster where Freedom Passes aren't valid, like Gatwick Airport, Hertford East and Radlett.

Just to add to the confusion The TFL 60+ which is listed on the London Councils freedom pass website is not Valid on TFL to Reading
