Wimbledon ticket office tell me my son cannot get his NationRail 16-25 discount put on his Zip 16+ Oyster. This means he has to pay the full adult Oyster PAYG rate.

This is quite a handicap for us in Raynes Park as we are big NR users - having no tube here. Is the only way to have 2 Osytercards? But then you miss out on the price capping! It would not be too bad had they not got rid of off-peak paper tickets in London this Jan - so that option of getting a 16-25 discount is now closed!

Yes, you can have two Oyster cards - the 16-15 NatRail R/C discount can be loaded onto an adult oyster.

We can't touch the child ones as they have to be sent away to be issued etc, in the ticket office you can hardly see anything on them compared with normal oysters.

It can be loaded? D: That would have saved me quite a bit of money

Over the summer, I end up losing a lot of money coming home and traveling around london because my university isnt part of the program for the 18+ Student Oystercard thing which is kinda annoying.

Whenever Im back from Uni, I end up using my railcard to get a one day travelcard whenever I travel to the city (closest station - Norwood Junction) and whenever I go into town (Croydon) I walk instead of get the bus because its cheaper. =/

I have a 16+ Oyster with the free bus travel. You can have the 16 - 25 Railcard discount loaded onto a 16+ Zip at a Tube ticket office, but it's a waste of time as it corrupts the card and totally stops it working, until it is removed. Touch it in on a bus and the reader will display "table error/data error." Touch it in on a barrier at a railway station and it will throw up a myriad of seek assistance codes. This was highlighted in a recent issue of the LUL Ticketing and Revenue newsletter.

The discounts offered by both cards warrants carrying both of them around;

- 16+ for free bus travel, child rate unrestricted season tickets and discounted LU travel. However, it charges the standard adult Oyster fare on the National Rail network and caps at the adult rate i.e £7.50 off peak.

- Adult Oyster + 16-25 railcard for a £5 off peak cap. Also gives a 34% discount on off peak Oyster fares on the National Rail network. However, it will charge a lot more than the 16+ card on the Underground.

Be forewarned that the fares structure under Oyster is complex and the system is riddled with bugs as a result which will get you an unwarranted penalty fare.
