How long does it take on average, to re-vinyl a standard 4 car unit, ie, to remove all the other vinyl, make good the exterior and then re-apply new vinyl?

Judging by how fast the Virgin branding got painted (or stuck) on to East Coast trains, a few hours overnight is all that's needed.

Merseyrail's units took around five days to complete, although these are only three car units. The precedent suggests no more than a week to re-vinyl a four car train.

I think a factor as well is what type of paint was used before is a factor in how long a re-fresh takes.

With the Class 350s and Class 91s they used a basic grey livery meaning that the re-paint could happen overnight when London Midland and Virgin Trains East Coast took over their respective franchises. Although the current Intercity 225 livery does look like a Coca Cola can.

With some trains I think they have anti-vandal paint applied meaning a repaint takes much longer. Someone once told me that anti-vandal paint needs to be sanded off before a repaint happens which is why the Class 360s stayed in First Great Eastern livery for so long although I don't know if thats true.
