I was at Cambridge yesterday(11th June) platform 8, when there was a 720 about to leave for Liverpool Street, when a group of foreign students started checking if right train for them, looking around etc, then one of group got on the train, while others on platform, then the station dispatchers blew whistle and the doors were shut, then one of the group realised friend was on train and was right train for them, so started pressing door buttons on train, which were un illuminated, at which point with dispatchers not giving orders move away from train, i told them move away from train its leaving, and they moved away and train left normally.

Im interested to know if did right thing And have others done similar to this? As I had not heard orders from dispatchers to move away, and train leaving any second I thought it prudent to ask them to move away, by saying train leaving, I think if not they would have kept trying get on, but they did get message and moved away. Would dispatchers have picked up on them trying to push door open buttons when train leaving. I just thought with Liverpool situation not so long ago it was better to get them away from train before went any further.

Yes, you did the right thing. The Dispatchers very likely missed that the students were trying to get the doors to open (dispatchers can only look at one direction at a time). - What do you think the worst case scenario would have been if you hadn't said anything and the dispatchers had also missed them...? - Gut instinct is usually correct.
