I understand that the return portion of a saver ticket is valid via cambridge.
I will want to break my journey in Cambridge.
The trains to Cambridge are not that frequent.

Is it possible to travel on the FCC or East Coast service to Hitchin or Stevenage respectively then take the FCC to Cambridge.
From Cambridge to London I can go to Liverpool street or Kings cross.
Please can anyone advise if this is possible. If not what is the best / cheapest way.

I have thought about going to Huntingdon then take the guided bus service to Cambridge but not too sure how long this would take.

Thanks

I'd be surprised if they were valid that way - you certainly wouldn't be able to go back down to Kings Cross afterwards as you'd be doubling back a huge distance.

It's rarely quicker to go that way. You may want to look at changing at Ely when there is a long gap between direct trains.

If you look at the Routeing Guide on the ATOC website, you will see that London Group to Cambridge is valid on map ER, and map ER does appear to allow the journey from Peterborough to Hitchin to Cambridge to Liverpool St.

Therefore, it is permitted. It's a bit bonkers, and not 'reasonable' though so expect trouble if you encounter an FCC RPI.

Some TOCs claim that if a route is not 'reasonable' then it is not 'permitted' so only do this journey via that route if you are prepared to get involved in a dispute with FCC.

Yeah, you might wish you'd simply stayed at home drawing pictures of the prophet Muhammad and publishing them on Facebook for considerably less grief.
