Pink enamelled "Ladies Room" signs on Pre–Corporate Era British Railways signage?

. . .I read in a book in Morecambe Library many years ago that British Railways indicated "Ladies Room" signs in white letters on a pink background – was this a general practice across all six regions or only a short lived experiment?

. . .Are there any colour picture examples of stations that had these?

I believe it was a Southern Region experiment. Norwood Junction IIRC was a recipient of such signs. Several have been through auction over the years.

Interesting - I never knew about this

Here is a colour picture of one from auction sale sold for £750 in March 2024

which says (note used at "a few stations"):

BR(S) FF enamel doorplate LADIES ROOM. In the experimental Pink enamel used and a few stations including Norwood Junction and Dover Marine In very good condition with one minor face chip, measures 18in x 3.5in. A superb doorplate and one of only two known survivors, a must for the doorplate collector.

Not sure how good the colour rendition is of the tone of the pink

I didn't find any other pictures on line in my search.

Went up in the loft this morning and dug my pink Ladies sign out. It’s one half of a double sided hanging sign. It’s pictured with a token for size comparison.

I remember some speculation about whether there was a blue BR(s) Gentleman equivalent. Does anyone know?

Interesting to note that the typeface is "Transport" rather than Gill Sans, so must have been just before the BR Corporate Identity was launched? :?:
